Open source power electronics project

Luiz Fernando Lavado Villa: Open source power electronics project

The Piggot turbine design is a great method for harvesting the energy from the wind and converting it into electricity. However, once the electricity is available it needs to be processed to be compatible with other appliances. At his moment, the effort of being energy independent meets a dilemma: using an open-source turbine design with a proprietary power electronics technology.

This presentation seeks to inform the attendance about the project “Modular Power to the People”. This initiative started at the University of Strathclyde and seeks to develop an open-source design of power electronics systems that can process and deliver the electricity according to the needs of the consumers.

There will also be an exchange with the attendance about their needs in terms of electrical systems and their interest in helping with the project.
